Discover Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp

The Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp was a German concentration camp operated during the era of National Socialism in Oranienburg near Berlin. It was established in 1936 and was one of the first concentration camps established by the Nazis. Sachsenhausen served as a model for the organization and administration of other concentration camps.

The camp was intended for political prisoners, homosexuals, Jews, Sinti and Roma, as well as other groups of people considered "hostile" by the Nazis. The conditions in the camp were extremely brutal and inhumane, with many prisoners subjected to forced labor, abuse, medical experiments, and mass murder.

Today, the former Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp is a memorial site that commemorates the horrors of the Nazi era and urges visitors to learn from history to prevent such atrocities from happening again. The memorial site includes museums, memorials, and preserved parts of the camp that serve to remember the victims and document the history of the site.
