Discover Wolfs Lair

The Wolf's Lair, or Wolfsschanze, gained notoriety not only due to its role in the Eastern Front campaign but also because of a significant event: the assassination attempt on Adolf Hitler. On July 20, 1944, an attempt was made to assassinate the dictator here, which came close to ending his life.

Officer Claus von Stauffenberg placed a bomb in a conference room of the Wolf's Lair, where a meeting with Hitler was scheduled. The explosion caused extensive destruction, killing several individuals and severely injuring Hitler. Although Hitler survived the assassination attempt, it had significant implications for the course of the war and the internal dynamics of the Nazi regime.

The Wolf's Lair was thus not just a site of strategic planning but also the scene of a courageous attempt to overthrow the regime. This event underscores the complexity of political intrigues and resistance against the Nazi regime.

During a WW2 tour of the Wolf's Lair, visitors have the opportunity to explore the premises where this assassination attempt took place and learn more about the history of the conspiracy against Hitler. This event sheds light on the internal conflicts and the quest for change that existed even in such a central location as the Wolf's Lair.
